The Gravity Discovery Centre & Observatory is one of Western Australia’s most unique cultural and scientific destinations. A place where science, education and wonder intersect under some of the clearest night skies on earth. Located in Gingin, north of Perth, it draws visitors from across WA and around the world.
The Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory is one of those rare places that genuinely changes how you see the world. Explore the cosmos through the observatory, throw an object from the Leaning Tower of Gin Gin to test the laws of physics for yourself, and lose a few hours inside one of Western Australia’s most extraordinary space science destinations.
CLIK is a proud sponsor and digital partner of the centre, so when the time came to build a website worthy of this remarkable place, we did not treat it as just another project. We treated it as a responsibility.
The brief was simple to say and difficult to do. Capture the wonder of a place that has to be experienced to be believed, and translate it into something a family, a tourist or a school group could feel the moment they landed on the page.
The Gravity Discovery Centre offers something you simply cannot find anywhere else in the state. Interactive science exhibits, world class observatory stargazing, education programmes, school excursions and the famous Leaning Tower of Gin Gin all sit on one extraordinary site under some of the clearest night skies on earth. A brilliant experience, though, is only half the story. You still have to reach the people who do not yet know you exist.
The previous website was not communicating the magic of what the centre offers, especially to a digital native audience of families, tourists and school groups who decide on day trips and educational visits based almost entirely on what they find online.
The challenge was to build a website that does not just inform people. It had to inspire them to make the drive.
We approached this as part content strategy, part visual storytelling and part user experience design. The goal was to take a genuinely sensational real world experience and translate it into a digital environment that captures the imagination and turns curiosity into visits.
Every design decision was made in service of the visitor. Make it easy to understand what is on offer, easy to plan a visit, and easy to picture yourself standing under the stars or atop the Leaning Tower. The result is a site that feels as expansive and full of wonder as the destination itself.
